I grew up in a small Midwestern town, in a house where the bathroom shelf told a story. My mother kept one reliable moisturizer and a single lipstick she wore for a decade, and my aunt arrived every summer with a cosmetics bag like a tiny pharmacy. I would sit on the edge of the tub and ask what each thing did. Some answers were wonderful and some were pure marketing, and that is where my habit of asking "but does it really?" began.

These days my happiest routines are small ones: a slow Sunday manicure, a cup of tea while I compare three sunscreens by their filters. Make Up Bloom is where I put it all together, like a knowledgeable friend who has done the reading and is comfortable saying "this part is a question for your dermatologist."
